Our Covenant
Since I have received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and have publicly testified through baptism of that new birth; and since I am in agreement with the statement of faith, constitution, and mission of West Cannon Baptist Church, I commit myself to God and to other members to protect the unity of my church, share the responsibility of my church, serve in the ministry of my church and support the testimony of my church.
- I will protect the unity of my church
- By acting in love toward other members
"See that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently."
1 Peter 1:22
- By refusing to gossip
"Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but
that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister
grace unto the hearers." Ephesians 4:29
- By reconciling conflicts
"Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled
to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift." Matthew 5:24
- By following the leaders of the church
"Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word
of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation."
Hebrews 13:7
"Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch
for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and
not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you." Hebrews 13:17
- I will share the responsibility of my church
- By praying for its spiritual growth
"Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching
thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints."
Ephesians 6:18
- By giving financially to support its ministries
"Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store,
as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come."
1 Corinthians 16:2
"
But this I say He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and
he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man
according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly,
or of necessity, for God loveth a cheerful giver.
" 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
- By welcoming those who visit
"Accept one another, then, just as Christ, accepted you, in order to
bring praise to God."
Romans 15:7
- By participating in personal and corporate efforts to reach the unsaved
"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the
gospel to every creature."
Mark 16:15
- I will serve in the ministry of my church
- By using my spiritual gift(s) and talents
"As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good
stewards of the manifold grace of God."
1 Peter 4:10
- By edifying the body of Christ
"And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some,
pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry,
for the edifying of the body of Christ."
Ephesians 4:11-12
- By developing a servant's heart
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus...
who made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant,
and was made in the likeness of men."
Philippians 2:5,7
- I will support the testimony of my church
- By attending faithfully
"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is;
but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."
Hebrews 10:25
- By submitting to the Bible as my guide for faith and practice
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of
God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."
2 Timothy 3:16-17
