From the Elders

Dear Church Family,
As you know all too well, life in the midst of a pandemic can get complicated. Since last Saturday we – the church leadership team, have been trying to chart a wise path in the midst of what is “complicated.” I can only imagine that you may have questions or concerns about what led to going virtual last Sunday and cancelling our midweek service. We value communication but have been limited in our ability because we were waiting for data outside of our ability to control. Simply, on October 6 and 7 we had two extended leadership meetings that involved all of our elders. When we found out on Saturday afternoon, October 10, that Debbie Anderson tested positive for COVID things got complicated because Tim was in both of the leadership meetings. Please know that neither Tim nor Debbie knew that they had been exposed to the virus nor did either have any symptoms on the days our leadership team met so there is nothing they could have or should have done differently. However, knowing that all of our leaders had possibly been exposed to the virus we made the decision to go “virtual” last Sunday as a precautionary but necessary measure.
Yesterday we learned that Tim has tested positive – although Tim and Debbie are not feeling well neither has respiratory issues, and so all of the elders are effectively in quarantine until they get a negative test result. Again, we are waiting for data outside of our control. Therefore, we have to adjust our services this Sunday. To allow a live worship experience we will pre-record the parts of the service that involve elders so that they can avoid contact with the church family. If we get a negative test result before the service we will join you live. Nurseries and Children’s programs will be provided during the service. However, because our elders are responsible to teach in many of the classes during the Sunday School hour we will not have Sunday School this week.
Although these options are not ideal, we believe that they allow us to gather to worship in a safe environment as we try to honor our KING and follow governmental guidelines. It is anticipated that we will be back on schedule for in-person meetings on Wednesday, October 21.

Self Health Screening

As we begin allowing limited people back into the church building, considering the needs of others as more important than our own remains one of West Cannon’s priorities. Before entering the building, we would like you to please conduct a simple screening of yourself to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and reduce the potential risk of exposure to our Church family and visitors.

Are you or members of your household experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever of 100.4 or higher

  • Cough (excluding chronic cough due to medical concern other than COVID-19)

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
