From the Elders

Good Afternoon West Cannon family,

As you well know the COVID-19 pandemic is changing the way we live our lives. Although the media seems to be creating some unnecessary hype the truth is that the Corona virus is very infectious and dangerous to valuable and vulnerable members of our society. We appreciate our elected leaders and health organization’s efforts to contain the undesirable spread of the virus and in so doing save lives. As we learned overnight, the virus is now in Kent County and our governor has mandated the closing of all schools. At the writing of this letter, Governor Whitmer and her task force have requested that all public gatherings of 100 people or more be cancelled. That may change soon, as it has in other states, and become a requirement.

In light of these developments and our responsibility to obey those who are in authority over us (Romans 13:1-2; 1 Peter 2:13-17) we are cancelling all services and events at West Cannon until further notice. As new information becomes available we will plan accordingly. Our hope is that we will soon be able to gather again as the people of our Risen King to worship together and edify one another. Until then we encourage you to watch our Livestream service on Sunday morning at 9:30am. https://www.westcannon.org/live-stream Although this option is not the same as worshipping together as one big family it’s where God in His good providence has us for now. Although we cannot pass the offering plates please know that you can give online or send your gifts to the church.

In light of God’s providence, let’s not miss the opportunities we each will have during this time of crisis in our country to represent Christ well. I encourage you to look out for the needs of others in our church family and in your neighborhood. As others experience fear and possibly panic, let’s demonstrate our confidence and trust in our Father in heaven (Philippians 4:4-7). Let’s pray for our leaders as they seek to make wise decisions for the good of our country (1 Timothy 2:1-4).

If you have needs, know of someone else who does, or would like to speak with one of the elders, please feel free to contact the church office (616-874-6740 or the form below) or one of your elders (contact information below). We are committed to loving and serving you well through these unique times of testing.

For the Glory of God and the good of His people,
