Beginning the second Sunday in September
Our transition to the two-service format begins September 11, 2016, when we will offer 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM worship services. During each of these services we will also offer Sunday school classes. Moving to two services will allow us to maximize the use of our wonderful facility and better steward what God has graciously given us. It will also allow us to address the limitations we are experiencing in the worship service and in many of our Sunday school classes. By doing this we can create room for new classes and Cross Training Elective Classes.
About one-half of our church family will continue to meet first for worship from 9:30 AM - 10:40 AM and then go to Sunday School from 11:00 AM - 12:10 PM. For the other half of our church family, your Sunday School Class will meet from 9:30 PM - 10:40 PM and then you will gather for worship in the auditorium from 11:00 AM - 12:10 PM. This format will still allow you to interact with church family members who attend the other service—before, in between, and after services.
Below are overall plans for Adult, Student, and Children’s Ministries:
Adult Sundy School Ministry
Classes will meet at the following times and locations:
Time to Fellowship Together
The 10:40 AM to 11:00 AM time frame will be an opportunity for all adults to fellowship together in the Family Room, encouraging community between the first and second hours.
Cross Training Electives
Cross Training Elective Classes will be offered in addition to our regular Adult Bible Classes. Cross Training Classes will meet Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings, and Wednesday evenings.
JR HI and HS students will have the same choices as adults; to participate in worship service in
either hour; and to participate in adult classes, Cross Training Elective Classes, or service opportunities in the opposite hour.
REACH Big Group
Students will meet for big group during the Sunday evening worship service and in their small groups on
We believe that these changes will present unique opportunities for growth:
First, it will provide time for students to be involved in varying service opportunities around the church. One of our goals in Student Ministries has always been to have students involved in serving. Our current format does not allow much time for this important aspect without missing a worship service, small group, or big group. The new format will allow all students to be involved in each of these on a weekly basis.
Second, it will provide parents and students more time together. We believe that the family is the primary vehicle through which God disciples a child, so we should prioritize families worshiping and growing together. Our current format only has them together during the main worship services. The new format will allow students and parents to attend a worship service, Sunday School Classes, or Cross Training Elective Class together.
Third, it will allow for more intergenerational ministry. We believe that as the body of Christ, each generation in the church has something to offer the others. Our students need the wisdom and knowledge of our older generations but our current structure doesn’t allow for much interaction. With the new format, students and adults will be able to build relationships outside of their own generation through Sunday school classes and Cross Training Elective Classes.
We will have children’s programs for nursery through sixth grade children during both services.
Nursery through kindergarten will not change from the current format in either hour.
Ministry for first through sixth grade children is planned to look something like this (approximate times):
First Hour AM:
9:30 AM - 10:00 AM Combined big group (1st through 6th)
10:00 AM - 10:40 AM Primary Church (1st through 3rd) and Junior Church (4th through 6th)
10:40 AM - 11:00 AM Combined worship (1st through 6th)
Second Hour AM:
11:00 AM - 11:30 AM Combined big group (1st through 6th)
11:30 AM - 12:10 PM Children’s Sunday School
This plan will provide ministries to children of all ages for both services—yet provide families options that meet their specific family desires. It will also allow children the opportunity to worship with their parents in either hour, and be dismissed prior to the message, or remain with their parents for the entire service.
